The newest kid on the block is WinVibe, an amazingly versatile little player out of Korea (while the download link is in Korean, all the program menus are in English). There's a VGA version available as well. WinVibe supports MP3, OGG, WMA, ASF, and WAV playback, which places it at or near the top of the heap when it comes to Windows Mobile music players. Those level meters you see, they work. There's also a working equalizer spectrum. There are some nice sound effects, including bass boost, 3d chorus, surround sound, reverb, and echo. On the downside, it takes a long time to load large music folder and playlists, and WinVibe appears to use more CPU than MortPlayer. I also like MortPlayer because of its support for audiobooks and bookmarks.

A two-way sliding phone with both a QWERTY and numeric keypad is hardly anything to marvel at in an age where less is more. But a three layer slider phone looks interestingly complex enough to consider. Nokia just filed a patent for a layered mobile device featuring a QWERTY keyboard , a numeric keypad, and a controller for games. The last two layers are designed to move in two directions (see illustration above), making it possible for you to use the QWERTY keyboard and numeric keypad at the same time. I know that patents aren’t a guarantee that the actual product will materialize, but I’d love to see Nokia pull off a user-friendly triple-slider phone in the flesh. On one hand, I’m curious about how a “layered mobile device” is supposed to work and what it can do. On the other hand, do you really need THREE layers on a mobile phone? Especially if the layers are pretty much just keypads and controls.

The game needs no introduction. This product needs. But before I introduce you to this amazing product, let me first tell you how I ran into this. Everybody must be pretty aware of the on-going India-Oz Test series, All Thanks to the Reality-showisque 'Bhajji-Symonds' row and Bucknor's infamous umpiring goof-ups, viewership has increased many folds.

I was checking this site [http://www.cricinfo.com] from my workstation for the updates. And I suddenly saw this phrase “now on your mobile phone” and not surprisingly I was attracted to the Advert that said so. I am all eyes now to dig into this further.

Intrigued, I clicked on the link and found a bouquet of services for cricket updates on your mobile (Text, WAP and such). I picked this “Thing” (called Cricinfo Mobicast) to write about - Will post about the rest in later posts, not a promise though. This “thing” is quite interesting. Bonus points for its FREE Service!!

Pre-requisites: A Mobile phone with Java & decent memory and a GPRS connection (Unlimited GPRS plan is advisable.)

Just follow three simple steps and Voila, you are done:

1. Key in the URL[http://ci.plusmo.com] in to your mobile phones WAP Browser.

2. Click Download on the home page

3. Install the Application in your Handset.

Now you are all set to get the Ball-by-Ball updates pushed to your Phone with commentary.

Home screen has all On-going and Up-coming matches listed.

'View' ing the match leads to you to a screen with a ticker at the top with scores and 'ball-by-ball' commentary below. You can as well 'Refresh' the screen (Very useful during the nail-biting 'Need 6Runs from 3Balls' scenario) and view the 'Score card' while you are getting the updates/Commentary.

Refreshing rate is pretty decent – checked the scores on website and on phone simultaneously and scores are pushed to the phones faster. No qualms here.
